The small town of New Romney lies on the edge of Romney Marsh in Kent. It has rich, flat agricultural land which would have been ideal back in the late 1700s for holding horse races, although the only record of a meeting was on Wednesday 23rd April 1777. The single race card was a Match for 100 Guineas over 2 miles. It resulted in a victory for Cupid owned by Mr Bean. A further meeting did take place in the same area on Wednesday 22nd August 1810 when a larger crowd was present, with a Ball afterwards at the Assembly Rooms.
